| Description: |

The Plant Elements of Design plant selection program supports the landscape design process by providing designers and landscape architects a fast and reliable tool for selecting from over 1200 woody and herbaceous plants based on specific characteristics such as plant type, height, width, texture, seasonal interest, etc. It's also a useful plant reference for nurseries, garden centers, educators, landscape contractors, grounds managers and maintenance firms.
The Plant Elements of Design was developed for use in Minnesota as well as the North Central United States, and contains comprehensive plant information based on the knowledge and experience of University of Minnesota horticulturists and industry professionals. Plants are divided into two sections: "Woody" and "Herbaceous" plants. The "Woody" plant section includes deciduous and evergreen shrubs, trees, vines and groundcovers. The "Herbaceous" plant section includes perennials, annuals, biennials, wildflowers, bulbs, ferns, ornamental grasses, etc.
All plants in the database are considered hardy in USDA zone 4 with the exception of annuals, and adjoining zones are also indicated. Users can also add plants to the database, and edit information, customizing the data for their own use. Plant information can be printed as spreadsheets and as plant data sheets for each species or cultivar. Over 2000 images are stored for viewing as well.
